Judo & Taekwondo Workshop & GradingWritten on the 2 July 2024
We welcome again Master Geordie Lavers-McBain to our academy. We have shared a long history since 2012 in multiple styles of martial arts. He runs 14 locations throughout QLD and NSW and has trained multiple world champions. We have him for a whole day and will focus on striking in the morning and throwing/grappling in the afternoon. If you practice Hapkido or Kickboxing you are eliglible to grade up to your current rank in Freestyle Taekwondo in the morning from 10am. The difference between traditional TKD and Freestyle TKD is that FTKD focus is primarily on combat and sparring, no board breaking or patterns are required to progress through the curriculum. This style will greatly improve your kicking techniques, distance and timing. It is good to know how to throw a kick, but know when to throw it and make it land. If you practice Hapkido or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu you are eliglible to grade up to the first level in Kosen Judo (known as the "Original Judo" and popular in Japan for the first half of the twentieth century) in the afternoon from 2pm. The difference between traditional Judo and Kosen Judo is whilst Judo is primarily an art of stand-up combat that emphasizes throws and takedowns, Kosen Judo allows more time on the ground and continues Newaza (ground fighting). This style will greatly improve your throwing techniques as well as transitions from throwing integrated to the ground. The standard curriculum for Judo would make up approx 70% standup and 30% ground, where as Kosen Judo would be 30% standup and 70% ground. A great addiition to learning modern day BJJ. Your ranks are not guaranteed as you will require to pass the grading, providing an understanding and showing of all technqiues with precision. Time has been served by your commitment to your current art.
